Review: Chanel Ilusion D'ombre Eyeshadow 'Mirifique'

Greetings from the Dark Side ♥

This is a really late review of my one and only Chanel eyeshadow. I purchased this a while ago but for some reason I haven't posted a review @_@ Better late than never!

Price and Availability

$36 at Chanel counters or anywhere Chanel is sold. I purchased mine at Nordstrom.

Packaging

The eyeshadow comes packaged in a glass jar with a screw top lid. It also comes with a small angled brush. the brush is decent enough to use to apply this eyeshadow as an eyeliner. I personally love the packaging. The jar is wide enough that you can easily get product out with your finger. I just really love how it looks! :)

The top of the lid has the iconic Chanel symbol. Isn't it stunning? It is so classic and chic.
Here is how the eyeshadow looks. Keep in mind I have already used it various times.

Mirifique Swatch

Mirifique is a black base with TONS of sparkles and shimmer. The shimmers are multi-colored, but silver and gold seems to dominate.

Texture

The texture of these is really odd. It reminds me a lot of the Jill Stuart Eye Jellies but this is much smoother and has more of a gel consistency. They are bouncy and airy, but it applies easier that cream shadows and it is as long lasting (if not more long lasting) than powder eyeshadows.
One thing to note is that after a while, the product seems to shrink a little. I am not sure if this is because of the texture, but it will shrink inwards, leaving a small gap on the sides of the jar. I hope that doesn't mean that it will dry up D: Although I have had it for some months and it doesn't seem to have affected the performance of the actual eyeshadow.

Product In Action

One of my favorite things about this products is it's versatility.
You can use it as an eyeliner:
I used the Mirifique along with my Metier de Beaute Splendid Frost Kaleidoscope. I even topped the eyeliner with the taupe eyeshadow to make it less black and more wearable.

You can use it on it's on all over the lid:
All I did was to apply it with my finger and blend out the edges with my finger as well.

OR you can apply other sparkly eyeshadows over it:
Mirifique is perfect as a base for really glittery eyeshadows because it acts as a base to adhere the sparkles of the eyeshadow. I used my Jill Stuart #102 palette.

Verdict

Overall this is a fantastic product. It is very versatile and it can be used it many different ways. The packaging is classic and it will look beautiful on top of your vanity or in your makeup bag. Mirifique is a very wearable black that can be used as an eyeliner for an extra pop of sparkle in your looks. Or if you prefer a more dramatic look, you can build up Mirifique to be a very opaque and sparkling black that will be perfect for a smokey eye.
On the other hand, at $36, this is a rather pricey product. And although it is very long wearing, you can definitely mess it up(cause it to crease or clump up) if you don't blend it or if you cake it on the eye lid. I have personally found that when trying to build up the pigmentation, you run the risk of creating some clumps of product, which will look very unappealing.

Dark Side Rating: 8.5/10

Have you tried any of the Chanel Illusion D'ombre eyeshadows? What is your experience with them?
