Disney Villains Series: Dr. Facilier (The Princess and the Frog)

Greetings from the Dark Side~

"You can blame my friends on the other side"

I love the movie The Princess and the Frog, and I love Dr. Ficilier's song "Friend on the Other Side" even more. So I decided to do an inspired full face look based on his appearance during that song. Not only is he the movie's villain, but his look is very fitting for Halloween, which is only a few days away! This was my first time working with Aquacolors or with white face cream so I was super excited to do this look. I hope you all like it!

Disney Villains Series: Demona (Gargoyles)

Greetings my glamorous readers!

Hello everyone! I am soooooooo sorry this look is so late. This was supposed the be last week's look, but life has gotten in the way of my blogging. If you wanted to join the Series Challenge, you are welcome to do the Demona or the Dr. Facilier by the end of the month since I am super late on posting my own looks. If you did either of the Demon or Dr. Facilier looks on time, you will get an extra point for that.

Anyways, today's look is inspired by Demona, a villain (sometimes she is sort of an anti-hero) from the Disney cartoon Gargoyles. I grew up watching this show, and I absolutely love it! There are so many Shakespeare references, the story is engaging, and the characters are complex. You won't see many cartoons like this one now a days. The look came out like a bit of a mishmash of different colors, but I hope you enjoy it either way. ^_^

Foundations,Powders, and Concealers I Currently Own

Greetings from the Dark Side :)
I hope you have all been well.

I noticed that my stash of foundations has been growing in the past year, and I really dislike having so many foundations. I don't want them to go bad before I get a chance to use them and develop a solid opinion about them. I made it my mission to use these foundations and recall how I felt about them so I can give you a mini review of each product :D I hope this is helpful!

*FYI I have combination skin that is oily around my nose and forehead and super dry along my jaw and chin. I have acne-prone skin that also has a tendency to flake.

First Impression: Wet n Wild Fergie Jet-Set Palette

Greetings from the Dark Side!

I'm sure I'm not the only one who used to buy the huge makeup palettes back in the late 90's that had eyeshadows, lipsticks, blushes, and sometimes other crazy stuff. I used to have a bunch of them back when I first started wearing makeup. They seemed like an easy option since I didn't have much makeup, and these had a bunch of products for a low price. Most of the palettes I used were absolutely horrible; the eyeshadows were chalky and lacked pigmentation! They were truly bad products, so I decided to never buy one again.

When I first heard that Wet n Wild was releasing a palette like that for their Fergie line, I was conflicted. On the one hand, I was excited because I love Wet n Wild and I am always curious to see what they release next. On the other hand, I was not sure how I would feel about this type of all-in-one palette. I have very low expectations with palettes like these, so let's see how Wet n Wild did with their Fergie Jet-Set palette!

The Jet-Set palette has 132 shades: 72 eyeshadows, 48 lip colors, 6 blushes, 3 pencils, and 3 face powders. You can see the layout of the palette on the box below.

Review: DreamWorld Hermetica Hocus Pocus Collection

Greetings from the Dark Side!

If you are looking for some more Halloween themed indie makeup, DreamWorld Hermetica's Hocus Pocus is an option to consider! The collection is called Hocus Pocus (I am pretty sure that this is inspired by the movie of the same name. I haven't seen that movie since I was a kid so I can't be 100% certain) and it has a whopping 16 eyeshadows and two blush colors (which are not swatched here). I tend to like more geeky themed indie eyeshadows, so I don't particularly care for the names, but the colors are stunning! Below are the swatches for all 16 eyeshadows~

EOT: Halloween Purples (Ft. Shiro Cosmetics)

Hello everyone!

Halloween is right around the corner and I haven't yet used my new Halloween shades from Shiro Cosmetics! So today I made a super simple eye look using both 'Zero' and 'Two Faced' eyeshadows from the Halloween collection :D

This literally took me less than a minute to do (I was in a hurry). I used 'Zaro' on most of the lid and 'Two Faced' on the crease and lower lash line. I added some black liner and mascara. BAM! You have a super quick and fun look!

Swatches: Shiro Cosmetics Halloween 2013

Greetings my lovely readers!

Here are the new Shiro Cosmetics products from the Halloween line, as shown in my last haul. I already have a review of the previous Halloween products and you can check those out HERE. The new products included are 'Zero' and 'Two Faced' eyeshadows and 'Something in the Wind' lip gloss.

I haven't really used these a lot, so I can't even give you a first impression on the eyeshadows. The lip gloss is really nice, but a bit sheerer that I hoped. The smell of it is amazing though! It smells like lemongrass ♥ Anyway, I'll at least show you some swatches :D

Zero: is pretty accurate in the swatch if you also notice how it looks like a darker grey at the bottom. This is because this color is like that of a sea shell: it's pink and it has a silver duochrome.

Two Face: is exactly how it looks in person. It is a dark grey with a purple duochrome and lots of sparkles!

Something in the Wind: Is a vampy wine color. It is darker than what it looks like in these photos.

Here is a totally shitty shot of me wearing 'Something in the Wind'. Sorry I look like crap! I am still getting over being sick.

I'll have a proper review of these items once I actually use them for a while xD In the mean time, you can have pretty swatches :)

Early Birthday Haul!

Hello everyone!

As I mention in my Facebook, I have been lacking on my posting for the past days because I was really sick. I thought I felt better the other day, but then I went back to feeling absolutely freaking terrible. But today I feel better for sure :D I even did a bit of hauling! My birthday is coming up,  it's on October 25th. My super sweet supervisor/friend gifted me an early birthday gift: a Sephora gift card and some Revlon nail stickers! She knows me too well xD So after feeling like crap for the past week, I decided I needed a bit of retail therapy. Here is what I purchased~

1. Kat Von D Rehab Priming Elixir ($30)
I suppose I should start with the reason I was in Sephora in the first place. I was almost out of my Kat Von D primer and I needed a new one! I have been using this stuff on and off for the past 2-3 months, not really sure if I liked it or not. I decided this month that I absolutely love this primer for my combo-dry skin. This primer is especially amazing with the Kat Von D Lock It foundation! It's not cheap, but it makes my skin feel amazing and it makes the Lock It foundation look so much better! It was out of stock for the longest time, so I wanted to make sure that I had at least a new bottle stocked.

FOTD's from last week

Hello everyone :D

I have soooo many things to post but I was completely backlogged this weekend. I was out of town and when I finally returned home, I felt really sick. I barely had time to post my Maleficent look, and ever since then I haven't had the energy to post anything else. That, and also I have been playing Pokemon X non-stop (such a good, btw).
I have two FOTD's from Thursday and Friday using the Halloween eyeshadows from Dreamworld Hermetica. Both looks are very wearable and neutral because I had two job interviews to go to. Also, as you might notice from the second FOTD, I cut my hair quite short. I have been incredibly lazy with my hair and I needed something that was manageable and cute ^_~

I can't remember all the products I used, but I know for sure I used 'Black Flamed Candle' eyeshadow and 'Pixie Gold' lip gloss in the look below.

I'm feeling a lot better today, so I hope I will be able to catch up with the posts I have to write! :)

Disney Villains Series: Maleficent

Greetings my glamorous readers!

This look is inspired by my favorite Disney villain of all time: Maleficent! Sleeping Beauty is my favorite princess movie (although I love all the princess movies!), but Maleficent is probably the best character from the movie, IMO. She is not just evil, she is really glamorous too. The way she talks and the way she moves her hands so delicately shows true classiness (well, classy in an evil way!) I was very excited to make this look, and I hope you will like it :) My inspiration was Maleficent's eye makeup and her dragon form.

NOTD: Maleficent's Flames

Greetings from the Dark Side!

This week is Week 1 in my October Series Challenge and the inspiration is Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty. I have been trying to think of what eye look I wanted to create, and I thought I should also do something with my nails that matched Maleficent. I wanted to try to do something different with my nails and I was inspired by Maleficent's green flames to create this sort of gradient nail look.

This was my first time ever tying out the gradient effect, and I messed up a lot! I am pretty terrible with nail art, so go easy on me! But I still really like the way it came out. It looks so appropriate for Halloween! I used Sinful Colors 'Irish Green' and and NYC black nail polish. I added two coats of my Out the Door top coat as well.

I think if I do this again, I would add a dark purple with lines (the underside of the dragon's belly). I think I also need a green that is more yellow!

Review: Oslo Cosmetics

 Greetings from the Dark Side!

Oslo Comsetics is a relatively new indie brand, and I received some samples to try out and review. I loooove indie cosmetics because you can find some amazing things that are difficult to find in department/drugstore store makeup. So I was really excited to try a new brand and to expand more into indie cosmetics. From Oslo Cosmetics, I received Carina blush, Obscura Velvet Cream Base, Carinae eyeshadow, and Lyra eyeshadow. Keep reading for swatches and review of these products~!

FOTD: LĂșthien

Now that it is starting to get colder in North California, I am beginning to miss the warmer weather and the beautiful flowers of spring and summer! I was reading the Song of Beren and LĂșthien by J.R.R. Tolkien and it made me want to do something inspired by spring. I also wanted to do something more natural to reflect the beauty of nature~ Inspiration for makeup can really come from anywhere!

"When winter passed, she came again,
And her song released the sudden spring,
Like rising lark, and falling rain,
And melting water bubbling.
He saw the elven-flowers spring
About her feet, and healed again
He longed by her to dance and sing
Upon the grass untroubling.

Products I Regret Buying #3

Like most beauty bloggers, I have tons and tons of makeup, a lot of which goes mostly unused. Personally, I tend to set aside products that I have not liked too much. This ends up being bad because I don't use these products enough to review them. I used some of those products a bit more and I came to the realization that I did not like them at all and that I regret buying them. So here are my most recent makeup regrets! And of course, just because these products did not work for me, that doesn't mean they won't work for you.

1. MAC Riri Hearts MAC 'Talk That Talk' Lipstick and Lip Liner
I don't have an image for this because I ended up returning both of these products. But I'm sure most of you guys know what I'm talking about since the Riri Hearts MAC collection has created a huge buzz in the makeup community. I purchased both the lipstick and the lip liner because I LOVED the color so much. I already own 'Riri Woo' which also has the Retro Matte formula that 'Talk That Talk' has, so I thought the formula would be just fine. However, the formula is not at all like 'Riri Woo'. It is so much drier and it applies so patchy. The lip liner is also super freaking dry, it's unbelievable. I am so sad because the color is so phenomenal. But I definitely regret buying both products. In the end, I knew I had to return them since both products came to a total of $42! So expensive!

2. L'oreal Magic Nude Liquid Powder
I bought this product as soon as it was released and I actually quite liked it at first. In fact, I had a very positive first impression of this product. I should mention that I have combination skin that is quite dehydrated. My skin can be very dry and flaky around my cheeks and jawline. This foundation not only accentuates the dryness, but it actually makes the dryness worse. I noticed that my skin gets drier after wearing this extensively. Because of that reason, I don't wear this anymore and it has been gathering dust in my makeup drawer.

Dark Side Tips: Storing Indie Eyeshadow Samples

Hello lovelies!

For any of you who love indie makeup brands as much as I do, today's tip might be super useful. I order so many eyeshadows from various indie brands, and I usually end up with lots of eyeshadow sample baggies. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, I'll try to explain. When you order from indie brands, full size eyeshadows usually come in small jars. But if you order a sample, it comes in a small baggie. As you can imagine, using an eyeshadow from a baggie is problematic; it can cause a huge mess! I usually never order samples, but orders sometimes come with samples and sometimes I get sent samples for review. I hate having tons of baggies full of eyeshadows, so I needed a better way to store them. I ended up using the storing boxes that are meant for beads!

This is basically a small acrylic box that has 30 small jars. This is perfect for housing one sample in each jar and having all the jars super organized! And if you finish one sample, you can just re-use the jar.

Review: Victorian Disco Cosmetics Time Lord Collection

You! Yes, you, reading this makeup post! If you have not watched Doctor Who just stop what you are doing and start watching it. It is an amazing show! And if you have watched it, then you should love this review! But before we get to the makeup, I just want to share one of my favorite quotes from the Tenth Doctor:

"Always bring a banana to a party, Rose. Bananas are good."

That's some good advice! Haha, jk. I just love how random that is!

So as it is says in the title, this is a review for the Victorian Disco Cosmetics Time Lord Collection! So keep reading for swatches and a review!
