How To: Smooth Lips

If you are a long time follower, you might have heard me complain about my super dry lips. The holiday season is not so merry for my poor lips, since the cold wind makes them even drier. But with the proper products, anyone can turn cracked lips into smooth, flake free lips. I will warn you in advance that I have to keep up a strict regimen when it comes to my lips. Otherwise...flaky lips galore!

1. Exfoliate
Firstly, you want to start by exfoliating your lips. Not everyone needs this, but it is highly advisable. You can use a purchased lip scrub like me (I used LUSH's Sweet Lips), or you can make your own at home. If you make your own, you can try a sugar and olive oil scrub or just plain sugar. Brown  and cane sugar are really great and work super well. White sugar is fine too, but it doesn't work as well, IMO. You also have the option of using a toothbrush to scrub your lips. The toothbrush will just help even more to scrub away dead skin cells.

2.Moisturize
Of course this is the most important part. It is up to you to find which type of lip moustirizer works best for you. You can use regular chap sticks, Carmex, EOS lip balms, Rosebud Salve, Jack Black lip balms, Korres lip butters, and the list can go on and on.
From personal experience, I find that the Rosebud Salve has worked the best. I like to use the Rosebud Salve at night, and the Jack Black lip balm during the day. Korres lip butters, although initially moisturizing, actually dried out my lips more. I absolutely hate Carmex, I really detest it. EOS lip balms work okay, but I mostly like them because they smell good and because they are fun to apply. Don't even get me started on regular wax-based chap sticks...I hate those with a passion.
Yup...just have fun finding the right lip balm for you.

3. Lip Products
Some lip products (such as lipsticks, lip stains, lip glosses) can be beneficial to your lips, but others can make your lips even drier. I find that certain lipstick can adversely affect my lips and make them extremely chapped. Others can be extremely moisturizing and actually help and protect my lips. So if you have dry lips like me, make sure you pay attention to the affect that your lip products have on the condition of your lips.

Now for some silly pictures, hur hur hur. Yeah...I don't know what is up with my hair.It looks like the wind was blowing inside of my house.

And in case you didn't get what I was talking about...it is the lips. See where I am pointing? Haha.I am not sure why I felt the need to point out where the lips where. I am sure you can all see them!
Oh yes, that is my Angelina Jolie pose. I died! I laughed so hard when I saw this picture! Of course, I don't exactly fit the Angelina profile, but a girl can dream about having amazing cheek bones *sigh*.
Or this can also be my thug face...eh...or maybe not.

So, tell me, what are your favorite lip products?

  1. Good recommendations! I hate getting dry rough lips in winter. I now swear by MAC lip conditioners, since i started using them about two years ago I can honestly say I've never had dry or sore lips since. Amazing huh?!

  8. Great tips! I find that some lipsticks like matte ones are a bit drier so I always top off a bit of lip balm instead of gloss so it sinks into the fine lines

  10. Oh I see, I actually don't have any recommendations.. Pure Shea Butter works fine, but I actually made my own natural chocolate lipbalm, I really recommend that if you like chocolate because it smells amazing and works great, but thats probably a bit too ambitious if your not into natural stuff lol ..x
