The Lipstick Compedium: Illamasqua 'Magnetism' Lipstick

Greetings from the Dark Side~!

Welcome to The Lipstick Compendium, where I share my reviews about lipsticks and lip glosses alike in an attempt to compile swatches and thoughts of all my lip products.
Today's topic is Illamasqua's Magnetism lipstick from the Generation Q Collection.

                                                                     Product Information

Product:
Lipstick in the shade 'Magnetism'
Brand:
 Illamasqua
Price:
$24 (Sephora.com) or  £16.00 (Illamasqua.com)
Color:
A raspberry red with pink undertones.
Texture/Finish:
Smooth and hydrating texture with a semi-glossy finish.
Pigmentation:
It is pigmented enough in one application, but it is easy to sheer it out and build the color up. It is not as pigmented as Illamasqua's matte lipsticks, but for the hydrating and glossy finish, you get a pretty great color pay off.
Application:
The lipstick applies quite smoothly on the lips because of its glossy finish, but it can accentuate dry patches if your lips are very dry.
Wear (comfort):
The lipstick does not make my lips feel dry nor does this feel uncomfortable on my lips. Quite the contrary, the lipstick feels really great on my lips.
Wear (time):
4-5 hours, the color does start to fade throughout the day
Around 5-6 hours I usually just have a red tint on my lips.
Dupes? Similar products?:
MAC 'Most Popular' Lipstick

                                                                               Review
This is one of the better Illamasqua lipstick fomrulas I have tried. Although 'Magnetism' is not as long lasting as the Illamasqua matte lipsticks, it applies a lot easier and looks a lot better on the lips. The formula is very similar to MAC's Lustre finish lipstick, which I personally absolutely love.

This particular shade is also not the easiest to find and I think those who like darker shades of lipsticks will also appreciate this color. But if you don't like very dramatic lip colors, then I think you will also appreciate this color. This is a deep raspberry pink, and it can go on rather dark (as a raspberry red) but it can also be applied as a sheer color (as a light raspberry-tinted pink). If you want a sheer coverage, all you have to do it so lightly pat on the lipstick and dab your lips with your finger to get an even coverage. Because of this, I find this lipstick to be very versatile.

On a side note, I've mentioned before that one of my gripes with Illamasqua lipsticks is that the lipsticks are very delicate and they easily break. I have not had any issues with this lipstick and it has not broken off its base on the lipstick tube. That might be a coincidence, or maybe the newer lipsticks are better packaged. Keep that in mid if you are interested in Illamasqua lipsticks.

I gathered all the lip products I owned that I thought might be similar to 'Magnetism'. The closest was MAC's 'Most Popular' which I think is discontinued. Even so, I could not find anything that was really close to 'Magnetism'. Even 'Most Popular' was not as vibrant as 'Magnetism' be a closer dupe.

I I wore 'Magnetism' with a subtle makeup for work. The flash washed out the color a bit, but actually if you wear this lipstick sheerly, this is exactly what it would look like. It can be a very soft and girly color! On the other hand, it can be a very elegant and sultry deep raspberry.

I am surprised I don't have a dead on dupe for this lipstick. I absolutely love it! I wish it was longer lasting, but I still love the texture and finish of the lipstick. I love the versatility of the color since I can wear it for day time and night time. Illamasqua, you did an amazing job on this color!

  1. pretty shade. I have a matte Illamasqua shade that I am selling but I would definitely try one of their more luster finishes

  3. This looks really pretty! :D I like your revamped Product Info section, it's much easier to read the specs now. XD
Btw, I've tried the Illamasqua lipstick Underworld and it's really fragile OAO It broke when i twisted it up too long and now I have to be careful when using it, lol. The lipgloss is freaking awesome though. XD Thank you so much again, Nancy! :)

    1. I like it too! It is much easier to write up as well!

Hm, I thought that might happen. Illamasqua lippies tend to be very fragile. My Underworld was good for a long time, but then it broke off its base :( I still love the color I just wish they would package them better.
