Greetings from the Dark Side!
And Happy 3rd Birthday to The Dark Side of Beauty!
I can hardly believe that my blog is 3 years old now! Stay tuned to see some birthday giveaways this month! But enough of that for now. Let's get to some business. Let's talk about this Wet n Wild mattifying powder!
This compact powder from Wet n Wild is a translucent setting powder designed to keep the skin looking matte. The white powder looks and feels very similar to other silicone-based powders (like the MAC and MUFE ones). The compact is travel friendly, and comes with bottom compartment that holds a powder puff. This cost me about $5.
The powder itself is pretty standard. You apply it on any shiny areas, and voila! You have matte skin! This gets rid of the oilies without adding any extra color or cakey-ness. I mentioned in the description that the powder actually has some small shimmers, which I find totally bizarre! The shimmers are not really obvious on the skin, but they don't completely bled out either. I'm not sure why you would add shimmer to a mattifying powder...but okay...I guess. I personally don't have a huge problem with the shimmers, but I know some of you will. This can make the skin look a tiny bit powdery, so make sure you don't overdo it with the powder.
Overall, I am not wowed by this. I think this is mostly because I prefer powders with color over these translucent powders. I think that translucent powders like these are made for people who have oilier skin than mine and who don't need the extra coverage that a powder foundation might offer. However, I will continue to use this and see if, perhaps, I find a perfect way to use this! I will say that if you love those loose translucent powders (like the MAC or MUFE), you really should try this out. It is only $5 and it could potentially replace a more expensive mattifying powder!
I don't have a matte pressed powder so I think I will have to get this. Thanks for the review, I hope the sparkles don't show up on me.
ReplyDeleteOh definitely worth trying out. Perhaps it will work well for you~
DeleteI love translucent powders - because my skin is oily. It's a curse xD
ReplyDeleteBut adding shimmer to it, kind of puts me off. Definitely seems a weird one adding shimmer to a mattifying powder. I'm sure they had their reasons for it. xD
Now if the UK stocked this I could go and swatch it, see what I thought of it. Silly UK and being behind. xD
Juyey xx
Yes, I think there's a reason for the shimmer! But I have yet to figure it out xD
DeleteSeems a nice compact powder! Thanks for sharing <3
ReplyDeletemy skin is SUPER oily so I can't wait to try this one out! But I too am perplexed by shimmer in a mattitying powder....O___o
ReplyDeleteI am too! But I have to keep trying it out to see what's up with the shimmer!
DeleteHappy blog anniversary! Excite much? haha
ReplyDeleteFor a moment, I thought this WnW compact was a Dupe for NARS Light Reflecting Pressed Powder. Waiting for your detailed review. x

Thank you!
DeleteI haven't used this NARS one, but it might! They seem a bit similar. I will have to look it up and see if anyone else has used both of these products :D
I have the NARS one Nancy and LOVE it! I'll see if I can get this WnW in my country. :)
DeleteOkay-have you tried using this with a powder brush or stipple brush? Just curious?!
ReplyDeleteStay awesome and gorgeous!
Ciao!

I have used it with a powder brush. It was basically the same either ways. But I think I do still need to try other ways to apply it.
Deletehappy 3rd birthday!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your third birthday! :) I have never seen this product, but now I'm anxious to try it. For five bucks, I don't mind giving it a go. I don't usually wear powder at all, but this has me interested. Great review!
