Foundations I Currently Use and Own

Greetings from the Dark Side~!

As a beauty blogger, I am always looking for the next new amazing product. Sometimes I get really carried away and forget about my older products. But I am trying to stop buying new products and to use what I currently own. So before I use up the current foundations I own, I want to show you and do mini reviews for my the foundations I have in my makeup collection. What I own ranges from drugstore to high end, so I am sure you can find something that you might be interested in!

*From the swatches, all the colors differ slightly. But they blend in very well into my skin tone. The shade that fits my skin tone the best is the Revlon ColorStay in 'Buff'.

BB Creams
BB creams have become the focus to western brands in the last few months, but nothing compares to Asian BB creams. I always have at least one BB cream in my collection because they are a fantastic alternative to foundations.

1. Lioele Super Gold Snail BB Cream in 'Natural Beige'
This is my current favorite face products and my favorite BB cream! It has great coverage for a BB cream, it is also illuminating and hydrating. It is the perfect BB cream for those who have dry skin and/or have mature skin. It wears very well for a BB cream and it does not break me out. If you have oily skin, you could definitely still use this just as long as you use a setting powder to top it off.  People will be happy to know that there is three color options for this BB cream.
I would most definitely repurchase this!

2.Lioele Triple the Solution BB Cream
This was slightly better coverage than the Super Gold Snail BB cream and it is also better suited for people with oily skin. This stays put better for longer than most BB creams because it is meant for oily-skin. The only thing that I dislike about this BB cream is that it has an ashy tone to it, and even on my skin-tone I can see that it is a tad bit too grey. The greyness usually goes away once the BB cream settles on the skin, but if the tone of the BB cream was changed slightly, I would like this a whole lot more.
I would repurchase this if I could not get my hands on the Super Gold Snail BB cream.

Drugstore Foundations
If you don't want to spend a lot of money on a foundation, there is plenty of great foundations that you can find at your local drugstore. Ive tired a few myself, but I currently only have two that I have opened.

3. Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse in 'Porcelain Ivory'
If I am going to be perfectly honest, I have only ever used this twice. Not because I don't like it, but because I totally forgot that I even owned it. I can't say too much about it except that it does indeed apply very smoothly. It has pretty good coverage, I'd say medium, buildable coverage. I like it because it has a convenient compact packaging so you can take it with you in your purse.Of course, the packaging isn't the most sanitary, but that is usually the case for creme foundations. Just  make sure to use a clean sponge/brush or use clean fingers.
I want to use this more to have a better idea of how this works for my skin.

4. Revlon ColorStay Foundation in 'Buff'
This is a really great drugstore foundation, and a foundation that I have gone back to many times. This has a fantastic full coverage. You double this foundation as a concealer if you wanted to. It is very long-lasting, and it wears very well. The oil-free formula is especially great with those of you with very oily skin! I have two negative points about it though. Firstly, because it has a high coverage it is also prone to looking cakey. I find this to be especially true of this foundation because it dries very fast. Therefore, if you apply this to your skin you have to make sure to blend very well and very quickly. Secondly, I hate the fact that this does not have a pump. I hate pouring out the foundation, it is really annoying and unsanitary. I personally solve my first issue (cakey-ness) by using a Beauty Blender. I find that the Beauty Blender is the best tool for applying this foundation.
I would repurchase this.

(Left to Right): Super Gold Snail, Triple the Solution, Dream Smooth Mousse, and ColorStay

High End
High end foundations can be expensive, but many times you get a product that is totally worth the price.
5. Illamasqua Skin Base in No.03
This is the only Illamasqua foundation I have ever used. I don't know if I am not applying this foundation the best way, but I don't like how it looks on my skin. I find that it doesn't cover what I want to cover and yet it still looks cakey. I was quite disappointed with it. On a positive note, it is not heavy at all; it is rather light-weight for a foundation. Because of how it looks on my skin, I haven't used it in a while. I have not given up on it, though. I still want to try it again and see if I can get better results. For right now though, I would not repurchase this.

6. Kat Von D Lock It Foundation in #46
Besides the Lioele Super Gold Snail BB cream, this is my most used foundation. Like the Revlon ColorStay, it has amazing coverage. But, I find that this foundation does not cake up easily and is not as heavy as the ColorStay. I can apply this with a brush with no problem. This might be because unlike the ColorStay foundation, this does not dry up very quickly. You have plenty of time to blend it into the skin before it sets.
The packaging is also very sanitary and very convenient. It has a pump that keeps air from going inside the bottle and that allows you to dispense the foundation with great precision.
I would definitely repurchase this, although I would buy another color that is less beige that #46.

7. NARS Sheer Glow in 'Gobi'
The only reason I keep this bottle of Sheer Glow is to save my pump. I used this foundation in the past, but I have outgrown it. Don't get me wrong it is a great foundation. It has a medium-coverage, it does not get cakey, and it is dewy but not oily.  The problem is that this does not have a long wear on my skin. It tends to melt off my face in just a few hours and I don't even have oily skin. For the price, this foundation is just not worth it for me anymore.
I would not repurchase this.

8. YSL Teint Resist in #03 (Discontinued)
This is the only YSL foundation I have tried and one of the most expensive foundations I have ever purchased. I was surprised by how much I love it. It is a real shame that YSL discontinued this foundation...
This is not the type of foundation I would use for pictures or for an event where you want to look very made up. Instead, this is a really natural-looking and light-weight foundation for everyday. It has light-medium coverage, but it is really the finish that makes this a fantastic product. It has a semi-matte finish that keep you skin looking fresh, without making it look flat. It it simply perfect for a "no-makeup" makeup look. Seriously, why do brands always discontinue their awesome products?!
#03 looks really pink when you dispense it, but it actually blends perfectly into my skin. The pink-ness actually adds a nice brightening effect, so the shade works out very well!
I actually have back up of this :) So I won't complaint too much.

(Left to Right): Kat Von D, Skin Base, Sheer Glow, Teint Resist

Yes, I probably have too many foundations, but oh well. You have to take into account the fact that some of these were sent to me for review (Lioele BB Creams), that I don't use one because it is too old and I just keep it for cases where I want to talk about it on my blog (NARS Sheer Glow), or because I am also a blogger and I am always tempted to buy new foundations. I do have more foundations that I did not show on this post. This includes the Armani Maestro Fluid (I am still testing this out and I don't consider it to be a "foundation") and a few other drugstore foundations that I have not even opened yet. Be patient with me, I will review those when I get the chance :)

  2. I'm not going to lie I'm surprised you said Colorstay was heavier than Kat Von D. :0 I feel its the opposite. Colorstay also glides on easier for me than Kat Von D. Could it be the tools I'm using? I always just use regular sponge wedges.

    1. I think there are a lot of factors to consider. Everyone's skin is different so it might just be that the Kat Von D applies easier on my skin. For the Kat Von D I use a flat top kabuki brush, and when I use the ColorStay I have to use a Beauty Blended (wet sponge) in order to get the same effect. It is great that the ColorStay works well for you though. It is much more affordable than the Kat Von D foundation!

  3. I am totally bookmarking this page. I wear the same shade in the Revlon Colorstay, so it's good to know someone with the same shading to kinda branch out if I want. I also hate that it and the Revlon Nearly Naked do not have any pumps & I'm tempted to actually empty my ELF foundation bottles(because I hate that foundation) and decant the Revlon into those since I do love their pumps.

    1. Seriously! I felt the same. I was surprised because everyone raved about it and because I absolutely love Illamasqua. But yeah, for me it was not all that great!

  7. I'm the same as you when it comes to Colorstay! I'll move on and try a few different things, but always come back to it. lol

I like the sound of that Lioele BB cream though. I've tried a few and while I love how they feel so light and fresh, I don't get anything near the coverage I want/need. It's on the list. :P
