Greetings from the Dark Side!
And a happy 2013 to all ^_^
I am sure you have all seem plenty of these types of posts in the past week. But I think it is great to look back and think about which products have stood out to me. This really shows which products I have been 1) using a lot and 2) which products I have really loved. I have loved a lot of new products this past year, but there are the products that have really stood out to me.
1.Maybelline Color Tattoos
By far my favorite product of 2012. I own most of the shades because they are practical, not too expensive, great as eyeshadow bases, and great on their own. I look forward to seeing more shades released in 2013.
2. Sugarpill Tako Eyeshadow
It might seem a bit weird for me to choose a plain white eyeshadow as one of my favorite products, but I think a product like is easy to overlook. Sugarpill's Tako eyeshadow is definitely the best matte white eyeshadow I have ever encountered! It is the perfect brow highlight and the most pigmented white eyeshadow I have used. It has been one of the best discoveries I made in 2012 :D And I know this is a product that will not be easily replaced~
3. Pumpkin & Poppy 'Lady of Light' Cream Highlighter
Pumpkin & Poppy is a magnificent all vegan indie brand that I discovered in late 2012. Their 'Lady of Light' highlighter was a star product that I am so glad to have found. it replaced both my loved Estee Lauder 'Modern Mercury', MAC 'Whisper of Gilt' and Illamasqua 'Aurora' highlighters. This is cheaper, 100% vegan, hand-made to order, and is the freaking best highlighter I have used..well..ever.
4. MAC 'Full of Joy' Blush
Although I have not been into MAC this past year, I am still a huge fan of MAC blushes. This color, 'Full of Joy', is a sheer lavender-pink that is just so easy to wear for me. When ever I am in doubt about what blush to wear, I just throw this on my cheeks! It is such a girly and cute color =3 It also multitasks as both a blush a a highlighter because it has a little bit of shimmer that adds a glow to my face.
5. Prestige My Biggest Lashes mascara
Inexpensive, easy to find, and just a great mascara for my eyelashes. I am very fickle when it comes to choosing mascaras because I like most mascaras I use. This is a standout for me though because it adds both volume and length to my lashes without clumping. I have also repurchased this 3 times in a row, which is very rare! I usually never buy the same mascara :O
6. Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains
Practically every blogger has this product on their favorites but for a good reason. 'Darling' is my favorite color, but they are all great. They are easy to wear, hydrate the lips, and act as a longer-wear lip stain. I usually keep Darling in my purse because it effortless to apply it on the lip and it looks good no matter what I'm wearing.
7. Lime Crime Velvetine in 'Red Velvet'
Although this is a recent acquisition, I think it is mt favorite red lip color in my collection! Not only is the color stunning, but this has the longest wear of any of my lip products! Although this has a matte finish, it is not drying at all. And for a red, it applies very easily without the need for a lip liner. I use the tip of the brush to outline my lips, and then fill the rest of my in with the color. Once it dries, it does not budge from my lips at all. ♥
8. Jack Black Lip Balm
Best lip balm ever. Seriously. I don't think I can go on without this lip balm. It is part of my "must-have-at-all-times" essential products.
9. ELF Brushes
ELF brushes are inexpensive (at $1 or $3 per brush) and they are really great. I don't usually talk much about what brushes I use, but in case you are curious, I really only use ELF eye brushes to do my eye makeup (and only 1 MAC eyeshadow brush). This was a very useful discovery during 2012 since now I can minimize the amount of money I spend on brushes.
10. Lioele Super Gold Snail BB Cream
BB creams have become huge, and pretty much every brand in the US has a BB cream now. But nothing beats the Asian BB creams; those are by far the best. And by accident, I happened to find my favorite BB cream thus far. It use to be the Skin79 Oriental BB Cream, but they this Lioele one was sent to me to review. I ended up loving it so much that it is pretty much the only BB cream I use now. I sometimes use a foundation, but very rarely. This is perfect for my combination skin that tends to be very dehydrated. This BB cream hydrates it and protects it from the harshness of the cold weather. Don't worry too much about the whole snail thing! I promise it is not as gross as it sounds!
Some honorable mentions: TATCHA skin care, Lime Crime eyeshadow palettes and lipsticks, Indie makeup in general (Shiro Cosmetics, Victorian Disco, Pumpkin & Poppy, Fyrinnae, etc.), and Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup.
