Review: L'oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipstick

Greetings from the Dark Side!

Are you all ready to start seeing some of the new 2014 collections? I am starting out with the new L'oreal line of lip products, the Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipsticks.

The new 2014 L'oreal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Liquid Lipsticks are like a lipstick and a gloss combined together: they have the color payoff of a lipstick and the glossiness of a lip gloss. They are very similar to the other product from  L'oreal, the Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain. They both come in similar golden tubes with a doe-foot applicator and they both have a great color range. These are marketed as "liquid lipsticks" rather as apposed to "stains", although I find that they both have a similar opacity and texture. From the photos on the display, these seem to be marketed as super glossy lip colors too. These retail for $8-$10.

Rouge Allegro: a pink toned red; cherry red.

Scarlet Concerto: dark blue-toned red with subtle shimmer.

Like I already mentioned, I find that these are really similar to the existing Colour Riche Stain line. They both have similar, but not identical, packaging. I think I prefer the packaging of these ones because they are easier to store (they are more rectangular as opposed to the odd shape of the stains).

The formula, texture, and opacity is also quite similar to the Colour Riche Stains, however there are some subtle differences. I find that the liquid lipsticks are a bit more opaque and require less coats. The stains, like the YSL Glossy Stains, require 2-3 coats for full opacity while the liquid lipsticks require 1-2 coats. These are not as sticky as the Stains, but they are more glossy and "juicy"-looking. The texture is a bit smoother and they glide on easier on the lips.

The another difference between the liquid lipsticks and the stains is that the stains definitely last longer on the lips; they dry faster and they hold up better. The liquid lipsticks last a good amount of time (about 3-5 hours), but they don't dry fast and transfer quite easily. If you are looking for something long-lasting, the Colour Riche Stain line might be a better option for you. But if you are lemming that that glossy look that makes your lips look fuller, then you should check out the liquid lipsticks.

I like the two colors that I picked out very much and I love that they have a smoother texture than the stains. However, I hate retouching my lipstick and I am not a huge fan of the super glossy lip look, and because of that I think I prefer the Colour Riche Stains over these new liquid lipsticks. But I have absolutely loved to use these as a quick pop of color on my lips. They are very easy to wear and don't require much work. So I do actually like these and recommend them!
*And be careful when choosing these. Like the Stains, they don't have a protective seal so anyone can open them without you noticing. I got lucky that I bought these just as they were set up on the display.

  4. For some reason I didn't put together that these new liquid lipsticks and the stains were both from L'Oreal. Thanks for the great comparisons! I've been looking all over for these, but I think I may actually prefer the stains better.

Both colors look gorgeous on you BTW!

I like both shades, but Rouge Allegro definitely brightens up my face more. It's youthful and very girly.
