New Years Tutorial: Midnight Mermaid

Greetings from the Dark Side
And a Happy New Year!

I wanted to share my New Year's look a day early just in case some one of you are looking for some inspiration. I might seem like a bandwagoner because I added glitter to this look, but I just love glitter for my New Year's Eve looks! I hope you guys like this look as much as I do! And if this look isn't your style, you can check out my Elsa inspired look which would also be perfect for New Year's Eve!

Oh and before I forget, I want to thank you all for sticking with me this year! I am truly grateful ♥

                                                                             Tutorial

1. Start your look by applying a primer or base.
I began my look with a sheer silvery base all over the lid (Maybelline Color Tattoo 'Too Cool').

2.  With a creamy black eyeliner (Prestige Total Intensity eyeliner), outline the outer and inner parts of the lid. Leave the center blank. You can also blend the black eyeliner with a small brush.

3. Use a pencil brush and apply a dark navy on top of the black eyeliner. You can use any variation of colors here if you want but I used blue (MAC 'Deep Truth').

4. Make the blue areas a bit more dimensinal by adding a slightly lighter blue over top. This will give a nice contrast in colors. I suggest using something more shimmery and slightly lighter (Lime Crime 'Divination' eyeshadow).

5. With a crease brush take a different shade of blue and apply it at the edge of the navy blue. You can use something that has a slightly different tone, like a teal/green eyeshadow (Makeup Geek 'Mermaid' eyeshadow').

6. Get ready for the glitter! Apply a sticky base to the center of the lid. You can use glitter glue, tiny bit of lash glue, or foiling products (Fyrinnae Pixie Epoxy).

7. With your finger or a flat brush, apply your glitter. You can go nuts and apply any color glitter you want or a mix of different glitters (MAC 'JewelMarine' glitter).

8. Apply a white eyeshadow on the brow bone (Sugarpill 'Tako' eyeshadow).

 9. Apply mascara and lashes.

 10. Apply one of the blue eyeshadows you used on the lower lash line (Lime Crime 'Divination' eyeshadow).

11. To make this look really dramatic, line the waterline heavily with black eyeliner and extend the eyeliner to the inner corner (Prestige Total Intensity eyeliner; L'oreal 'The Blackbuster' eyeliner pen).

                                                                             Final Look

Have a wonderful New Years! Please stay safe and don't drink and drive!

  14. Bit late to the party on this one as it's well past New Year, but that is a gorgeous look. I don't think you need to worry about jumping on the bandwagon for applying glitter, I believe glitter is appropriate for every occasion!

  16. So.....I realize that New Years 2015 is still 3 months away, but I'm so glad I stumbled upon your blog! This is a beautiful look! I inherited some MAC eyeshadows, and 'Deep Truth' was one of them. It's such a beautiful color but I was having trouble coming up with the best look to show off how beautiful it really is. Now that I've seen your tutorial, problem solved! Thank you!
