Review: Sephora Jasmine Collection 'Magic Carpet Ride' Quad

Greetings from the Dark Side!

Are there any Aladdin fans out there? I know that I am a HUGE fan of Aladdin and Princess Jasmine, so I was super psyched by the Sephora Jasmine collection! I purchased a few things and I just had to show you all a review ASAP!

                                                                             Packaging

This quad comes in a square plastic compact that is beautifully decorated. The front has a the scene when Aladdin and Jasmine fly on the magic carpet, with the palace in the background. The palette has pink, gold, and bright blue decorations.

On the inside there is a large mirror. On the mirror, it says "Shut your eyes and take a chance". I love how each product has a little saying from the movie! It is really cute!

The four eyeshadows are placed right next to each other and in the very front there are two small brushes.

                                                                        Product Information

Product:
  Magic Carpet Ride Eyeshadow Quad
Brand:
  Sephora x Disney
Price:
 $30
Colors:
The quad includes: Carpet (a light dirty lavender), Splendid (a pale sparkly beige-pink), Wonder by Wonder (dark plum with blue sparkles), and Diamond Sky (a bright teal with an aqua sheen).
Texture/Finish:
All four shadows in the quad are shimmery. The two lightest shades (pink and lavender) are very smooth and buttery. However, the dark plum and the teal have a rougher texture. The least shimmery color is the dark plum.
Pigmentation:
All colors are really pigmented, but the dark plum is the sheerest. You can build up the pigmentation, but it takes more work than the other 3 eyeshadows.
Application:
For the best color pay-off, I prefer to use a stiff, flat shader brush. Instead of swiping the color on, pack it on by patting the color onto the lid.
Wear (comfort):
These wear nicely and comfortably. The light pink does have some shimmer fall-out though.
Wear (time):
The shadows can last all day on my eyes without a problem. Definitely wear a primer either ways.
Dupes? Similar products?:
These colors are not most unique, and I think they are quite dupable. Diamond Sky looks like a darker version of the Maybelline Color Tattoo in 'Tenacious Teal'.

                                                                               Review

I don't own any of the Sephora Cinderella collection products, so I cannot compare this to the Cinderella quad. However, $30 is a bit expensive for a quad. Especially because the big palette is $55, which is really not that much more for so many more eyeshadows, a blush, and a bronzer. Being a huge Aladdin fan, though, I had to get this~

The quad itself is pretty. I think it could have been prettier, but it is still pretty enough to be coveted. The quad is not too flimsy, but you should still be careful with it because it is plastic.  My favorite thing about the quad is definitely the mirror, the inspiration for the palette, and the little saying on the mirror. I think it is these small details that make the palette much better.

Of course, many people won't care too much about the packaging and the little details. They care about the actual eyeshadows. Overall, this was a decent palette. It is not an amazing "must-have", but it is not a horrible palette either. I personally love Splendid (the shimmery pink-beige) and Diamond Sky (the teal). Both of those applied very well and were very pigmented on the lid. Carpet (the dirty lavender) is also pretty and pigmented, but it did not "wow" me. Although it is a bit more unique than if they had included a plain silver or gold. Wonder by Wonder (dark plum) looks wonderful in the pan, but it is not that smooth nor is it pigmented. It could have been a fantastic shade if it had a better formula.

Here is one look I created with this quad, which you can check in more detail HERE.

                                                                               Verdict

If you are not a Disney or Aladdin fan, then I would not suggest this quad. For the price, I think you could find similar colors with better formulas. Personally, I bought this for the inspiration of the quad and to have it as a collector's item. This does not mean I won't use it! It is still good enough for use. 3 out of the 4 colors are pretty great, but because this is a quad (only four eyeshadows), 1 crappy eyeshadow makes a huge difference in how you perceive the quad as a whole.

If you are going to buy something from this collection, I would advise you get the big Storylook palette instead. It is $25 more, but is has 11 more eyeshadows, a blush, and a bronzer. It is a much better deal.
