First Impression: Maybelline Baby Skin Instant Pore Eraser

 Greetings from the Dark Side!

I bought the Maybelline Baby Skin a week or so ago and I have used it every day since then. A lot of you were interested in this product so I thought I would give you all an early mini review (aka First Impression). I bought this because I heard amazing things about it from bloggers in countries were this was available. Now that it has launched in the US, I knew I had to pick it up for myself!

Before applying the Baby Skin:

Right after applying the Baby Skin:

This was $6.99 for a 0.67 fl oz tube. Prices will probably vary from store to store, but it shouldn't be more than $10. A 0.4 fl oz tube of Smashbox's primer is $10, but their 1 fl oz tube is $36. With the Baby Skin primer you get more than half of a full oz, and it is still less than $10. I bring up this comparison because a lot of people say that the Baby Skin is a dupe for the Smashbox primer. I have used the Smashbox primer before, and yes they seem very similar. They both are a clear gel that feel like a typical silicone primer. I don't usually like primers like these, which is why I don't use the Smashbox primer anymore. But I have had a slightly different experience with the Baby Skin primer, mostly because I don't use this one on my entire skin.

Unlike the Smashbox primer, the Baby Skin is not marketed as a primer (although it is basically a primer). It is called the "Instant Pore Eraser". I was not tempted to use this primer on my entire face because I wanted it specifically for my T-Zone which is oily and has large pores. I use a really small amount of the gel on my nose, forehead, and chin. This leaves those areas matte and extremely smooth. Right away I notice that the areas look smoother, a tiny bit less red, and overall less textured. The pores do constrict a little bit. They did not disappear, but they do look less prominent. Up close, the pores are still there (they are not going to go anywhere!), but from a distance they don't look as bad as they did before. Foundation goes on smoother on my nose and it doesn't make my pores look larger. So yes, it does work, but don't expect any pore-erasing magic!

From other reviews I have read online, it seems that this is basically just a dupe of the Smashbox primer/other silicone primers. It probably won't do any more that the Smashbox one does, that is except for saving you a couple of dollars.  I think for the price, it is worth a shot. So far, I think the Baby Skin will be a great addition to my arsenal of makeup products. As long as it does not break me out, I can see this being a perfect T-Zone primer for me!

  1. I've never tried the smashbox primer because of the price! I'm glad to see that this one is pretty similar! Definitely going to try it soon

  3. great review! Everything about this product is so cute :) I'm already on the hunt for it! Even though I have dry skin, this sounds like it will prolong the wear of my really dewy foundations!

    1. It doesn't cling to dry skin but it doesn't do anything to minimize the look of dry skin. I prefer to use a primer for dry skin on those areas instead of using this one.

  8. I wasn't too wowed by this at first, because as you say it is very similar to a lot of silicone based primers, but for the price, it's a great product!!

    1. Yeah I think with this product it is all about the affordability. I have not been drawn in by a silicone primer since I used Smashbox, but because this is so affordable it makes me want to try it out~
