Review: Wet n Wild Natural Blend Lip Shimmers

Greetings from the Dark Side!

I talk about Wet n Wild so much on this blog and that is because I love finding products that are inexpensive but still of high quality. Wet n Wild has definitely stepped up their game in the past few years and I have discovered so many amazing products from them. Recently I decided to try out two shades from their Natural Blend line. I have seen these on the Wet n Wild displays for ages, but I never payed much attention to them. Rite Aid had a BOGO Free sale some time ago, so I decided to bite the bullet and try out two colors from the range. I picked up the shades #107 'Cocoa' and #108 'Cinnamon'.

The Natural Blend Lip Shimmers are marketed as lip balms that add "brilliant shimmer and beautiful luminescent color to lips. Approved by the Natural Products Association, these lip shimmers are made of a natural formula infused with calming ingredients of vitamins and natural oils to keep lips moisturized and nourished" (wnw website). These come in 9 different shades and cost $1.99 each.

 Cocoa:

Cinnamon:

First of all, I payed less than $2 for both of these. That is just an amazing deal! I love that about Wet n Wild! Secondly, there's the fact that these are not just lip balms, but actually pigmented lip colors. I was not expecting these to be pigmented at all. In fact, I did not have very high hopes for them.  The color range is a bit limited, but I found a few shades that I liked. The two I picked out were #107 Cocao, a neutral purple-toned bronze, and #108 Cinnamon, a scarlet red. I really love both shades! Cocoa reminds me a little of Pumpkin & Poppy's 'Evenstar' Lip Butter, but slightly darker and more purple-toned. Cinnamon reminds me of  darker version of MAC's Viva Glam Cyndi (which I loved soooo much and already finished my tube a while ago) because it is such a lively but wearable red.

The texture is very smooth and the formula is very hydrating. They have a slightly minty scent but it is not overwhelming. The packaging is sleek and the balms are small enough to carry around in a pocket or small purse.

The only con I can see with these balms is that most of them are very frosty. 'Cocoa', for example, is very frosty. I know many people dislike frosty lip balms. But 'Cinnamon' is not frosty at all. In fact, it has a finish similar to MAC Lustre lipsticks. Just be aware that some of the other shades in this range will also be frosty.

I can't speak for all the colors in this range of lip colors, but I absolutely love the two colors I picked out. 'Cocoa' is a great neutral color to wear with very bold eye looks and 'Cinnamon' is a fantastic wearable red lip color. I wish this range has more colors and more variation of finishes (besides just shimmers), but for the low price I really cannot complain. Bottom line, I think these are really underrated products and I really would like to see more people trying them out!
