Review: Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse Foundation

Greetings from the Dark Side!

A little over a week ago, I posted a First Impression post of this foundation, and I am finally ready to write my final review on it! Keep reading for my detailed experience with this new Rimmel product :)

The Rimmel Stay Matte Mousse Foundation is a thick, lightweight mousse foundation that is supposed to keep your skin looking flawless and matte all day.

Product:
Stay Matte Mouse Foundation (shade #100 Ivory)
Brand:
Rimmel
Price:
$4-$5
Packaging:
This foundation comes in a tube with a twisty cap.
Color:
The shade Ivory is a light beige, a bit too light and too beige for my skin. I think I would need to go to the next darker color and hope it has a slightly more yellow undertone.
Texture/Finish:
This mousse is very thick, but very lightweight. When you blend it into the skin, it feels like you are wearing nothing at all. This is in fact very matte, and it definitely keeps my skin matte all day.
Pigmentation:
Even though this is so lightweight on the skin, it is a full-coverage foundation.
Application:
I find that the texture is a bit too thick for my skin; it is really hard to blend the mousse on my dry skin.
Wear (comfort):
This is super lightweight on the skin and it stays matte all day so it is very comfortable to wear. I didn't feel like I had grease all over my face or that I was wearing super caked up makeup.
Wear (time):
I think this foundation wears very well since it stays matte all day. However, I do not like how it sinks into my pores as the day progresses. So even though it will wear all day, if you have large pores you will not like how it looks on those areas.

The Good:
I love how inexpensive this foundation is; I paid $3.99 for this tube of foundation that should last as pretty long time. If this was an HG foundation, I would be so happy to pay such a little amount of money for a foundation! I also really love the slick packaging. The tube is pretty and it is convenient for travel. You will never have to worry about your foundation bottle breaking and spilling all over your baggage with this product.
The foundation itself is great because it is a full coverage foundation that does not feel cakey or heavy on the skin. It feels so lightweight and almost like you are wearing nothing at all!

This covers my acne scars really well with just one layer! That is quite impressive for such an inexpensive foundation. This keep the skin matte all freaking day too. No joke. I have an oily T-zone and this made it  stay matte all day. You guys with oily skin will really appreciate this foundation.

The Bad:
Although I have an oily T-zone, I also have very dry cheeks. The thick texture of this is absolutely dreadful on those areas that are not oily. It is really hard to blend it in to dry skin, and even if you do manage to blend it in nicely, it will most likely emphasize dry patches. So it was horrible on my dry skin, but it was also sort of bad on my oily T-zone. My nose is the oiliest part of my face, and I have somewhat large pores there. Although this foundation kept my nose matte, it sunk into my pores and made them look two times worse than they did originally. If you have large pores, be careful of this foundation (I have heard a lot of other bloggers say the same too).

In theory, I like this foundation. It is pigmented enough to cover acne/acne scars and works wonders to control oily skin. But, if you have dry skin or large pores, beware; this foundation will probably not work well for you. As for me, I don't think this foundation suits my skin very well. I don't regret trying it out because it has a lot of potential for oily skinned people. Maybe this foundation will work better for me during the summer time when my skin is oilier (I will also need to pick up a darker color).

  2. From a quick scan of the ingredients, it looks like this foundation is paraben free (my skin freaks out when in contact with parabens), so I might pick this up since its so cheap and I do have really oily skin from time to time.

    1. If you have like no dry patches, then this would probably be very good for your skin!

    1. It looks nice in photography and it is quite flawless looking in person, but it clings to dry patches like no other!

    1. Yeah, I'm not the only one with dry skin who hasn't had a very good experience with this foundation. So if you do have dry skin, it is not the best option.

  8. Too bad I can't get Rimmel around here any longer :( Would have loved to try this since it's matte and so affordable.

  9. This foundation looked great on you, except for the whole looking two shades lighter than the rest of you. But you did say a ton of times this is the wrong shade for you. I wouldn't call my skin dry but it's not oily at the moment either. I might have to pick this up in the summer like you suggested.

    1. Oh definitely, this was too light for me. It seems that a lot of other people had problem with the color range too. I think the texture looks better in photography than it does in person though. Trust me, it didn't look as good in person!

    1. Oh I never tried the previous one. It does look flawless, but in person it is too much (it clings to dry spots and can look too made up).

  12. I really love the finish. It looks so natural and covers all blemishes.

  13. Thank you for the informative, detailed, and honest review. I super appreciate the pics and swatch. I've never been able to wear Rimmel foundations as the lightest shade is too dark, but this looks like it might work for me. Thank you again. :)
